TRAINING TIPS – PACE BANDS

One of the keys to achieving your best time is to keep an even pace throughout the race. Go out too fast and you'll hit the wall, go out too slow and you won't be able to make up the time later. Don’t be over ambitious and determine the pace that you believe you can honestly achieve.

What’s a Pace Band? If you want to run a marathon, in let’s say 3hrs 00mins, a pace band is a strip that you affix around your wrist to tell you what time you should be running each mile in.  Go to Runners World Website to create your own pace band or click here.

Pace bands are very helpful to guide you through those miles when your mind can't do the math anymore or you want to save your concentration for your race.  Pace bands are guides to help you to achieve an even pace throughout the marathon but are not replacements for common sense running. Do not stick to a pace if you are injured or are feeling unwell.

BUS TICKETS - LAST OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE

SARAH'S STORY

On May 15th 2008 my wonderful mum and my best friend ever lost her 2 1/2 year battle to Motor Neurone Disease, she was aged 60. She left a family that loved her so dearly and my 2 little boys Jamie and Callum lost their very special Nana.

Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive disease which causes weakening of the muscles, which eventually affects movement and function of limbs, speech, swallowing and breathing. Up to now there is no cure for this devastating disease. It usually attacks healthy people in their prime of life.

'Life with MND may be short but it's certainly worth living'. The Motor Neurone Disease association provides help and support to those suffering with MND by providing essential equipment to enable them to live their lives to the best they can. They also provide support to their families. It is vital that this work can continue to help others that have to cope with this terrible disease. By the MNDA funding extensive research hopefully one day a cure will be found.

On Sunday 14th March - Mother's Day, I will be taking part in the Words' first Kilomathon. 26.2km or 16miles (HELP!).  It is certainly a challenge for me, as those of you who know me know I have only ever achieved 2 x 10K run with a month's break in-between!!

I will be running / walking / crawling to the finish line in memory of my MUM. I am not able to give her a present, but I can try and raise as much money to assist the MNDA to continue their work and hope they find a cure so that others do not have to go through the pain we have been through.

My mum painted a rainbow picture shortly before she died and rainbows now play a huge part in our daily lives, so please rest assured that even if it is raining on Mother's Day, I will still be there completing this challenge. At various times since mum died rainbows have appeared when I have needed her, for example on my birthday last year, so really hoping I get to see one this Mother's Day as that's sure to help me to the end.

A lot of our family and friends have supported so many of our fundraising events over the past couple of years, but I am asking yet again for as much support on this challenge. I need to raise as much money as I can to get me to that finish line. My target is £1500 and already £784 has been raised.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
