With just two weeks to go to the Kilomathon you should have most of your hard training done at this stage. Increasing your mileage between now and the Kilomathon will do you more harm than good. Many of you will want to train right up to day but this will prove to be counterproductive. Your body needs to recover after all the long mileage.
Therefore if you want to race well, you need to taper correctly. This is the period of reduced training volume allowing your body to fully recover from intense training and workouts. While tapering you also need to reduce your calorie intake by about 100 calories for every mile you deduct from your taper.
At this stage you should actually start reducing your weekly mileage – it is recommended that you reduce your total weekly mileage by 20% or 30% two weeks before the race and 50% on the final week. Avoid the urge to run too fast during the tapering period – it is actually a good time to practice your kilomathon pace, but over much shorter periods. On the day and days before the Kilomathon you should get as much rest as possible.
During the last few days you may have nervous energy and feel excited – this is totally natural. You may want to run on the day before the Kilomathon to loosen up and reduce nervousness but it would be well advised to rest or just do a few easy miles. Follow this advice and you will arrive at the start line feeling rested and ready to go.
The Final Details (race day runner instructions) are now available to download from the Kilomathon website. The Final Details supplies you with all the information runners, along with your supporters, will need to know for race day. You will receive a printed copy of the final details in the post with your running number before Thursday 11th March (the printed copy may vary from the up-to-date download version). Please log into your "My Details" account on the Kilomathon website at www.kilomathon.com/?my-details-england to view your race number and final race instructions.
If you are unable to participate in the race or need to withdraw for any reason please do so before 17th February. We will be able to offer you a guaranteed place for Kilomathon 2011 however this will incur another entry fee as these are non-refundable. To withdraw please log on to ‘My details’ at www.kilomathon.com/?my-details-england or click here

Just under 3 years ago I suffered from a very rare condition called Dissociative amnesia. This means that I lost the entire memory of my life. The condition was bought on following a career in the Police force where I saw lots of horrific things.
The amnesia was so severe that it wouldn't let me build new memories over
about 24 to 48 hours. This carried on until November last year when I started
being able to make new m
emories
which lasted longer than the usual 48 hours. Sadly the last 32 years of my life
are still lost but the ability to remember back to November is a massive
improvement.
During my time of being ill I did lots of running for Mind the mental health charity, this helped raise the profile of my rare condition and also raised a few thousand pounds along the way.
Now I'm starting to feel better I want to embark on a new challenge, the plan is to run 80 races in 80 countries. I'm a 32 year old man with a 3 month memory. There is so much of the world I need/want to see and learn about and I also want to give hope to other mental health sufferers by showing that you can get better and am now heading off around the world. Anything is possible when you put your mind to it.
SO the plan is to start my challenge with the Kilomathon, I'm now based in Derby while the planning and preparation is being done; this race seems like an ideal match. This is the first race of its kind in history and the first race that I will remember after nearly 19 years of racing. I ran two international standards as a junior and competed for Bedford and County Ac. Liz Yelling my good friend is going to help promote my run around the world and I notice she is linked to the promotion of the Kilomathon which is awesome.
For Andy, this is going to be a very special day where he will be able to remember his first race in 32 years! To sponsor Andy please visit his just giving page at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AndyWray or follow his progress via his website by visiting www.andywray.com
