The Joys of Winter Weather
The Kilomathon training had been going not too bad during the first part of January and I was looking forward to getting out for some longer runs… but then the cold weather hit.
The frosty conditions are pretty to look at and nothing beats getting out in the morning as the sun is beginning to rise when you’re the only one about! My running lately however has more resembled Bambi on ice or looking like I’m running on the spot.
A few mornings I’ve been out in -5C conditions which although beautiful, is not great for my Raynauds. Despite wearing gloves and literally a million layers I’ve still been coming back with white numb fingers and unable to feel my toes for the first mile.
On the plus side I’m still managing to do 15-25 miles a week, most of that trail running while it’s so slippy underfoot which I’m really enjoying. Running without music is also a first for me when I take Ozzy with me which I’m loving.
Finding work is getting in the way of a decent good long run too. Night shifts mean short 3 milers after work before bed and no running before or after a long 12 1⁄2 hr day shift. The longest run so far this year is 8 miles which is great as it’s the Kilomathon distance, but, I’m itching to get out for a double digit run.
Hopefully in my next blog ……. the last before the Kilomathon, everything will be coming together nicely. The weather will be good, training will be going well and I’ll have no injuries…….. that’s not too much to ask for is it!!
