Hello all it’s time for my second update on my training adventure towards the Kilomathon in April and in my opinion it’s it been going well…it’d be better if I didn’t get this cold but that’s winter for you!
So I started January strong doing 2-3 runs every week of mixed distance and intensity, the ice and snow put the fear in me somewhat so had to do some extra in gym training but I enjoy that too. Between runs, gym sessions and attempting not to buy discount festive chocolate I’ve knocked off 5lbs so far for the year.
I’m trying to make an effort to get involved in the vibrant running community so I went to my first ever Run Local event at the Glasgow Quays which I enjoyed meeting new people and running along the River Clyde and clocking up an outdoor 5k personal best of 31.59 which I aim to improve on of course.
I also decided to attend my first ever running group session The Runbetweeners in Giffnock based out of Kilomathon partner store Run4It. The running group was an interesting experience and my first real attempt at proper interval based training with a set plan and the attacking of hills. They had a few weeks off but I will be back with them next week health pending.
As many of you know over the past few years through fitness and healthy eating I’ve lost around 8 stone and became a happier, more confident person and I want to push myself and help people to reach a better place in their lives.
I started thinking about why I was running and what I could do. Many of my friends and people close to me have had their lives changed through mental health and thought I could use my own goals to improve my health to help others health too. With that thought in mind I’ve decided to dedicate my runs this year to SAMH, the Scottish Association for Mental Health. I’ve set myself a goal of 100 kilometers specifically in sanctioned races. I believe my first race this year will be the 10k Resolution Run in Glasgow but my first official race in the SAMH vest will be the Kilomathon.
Check out updates on my challenge over on my Wull Runs 100K JustGiving page.
I know I still have 2 months to train but I have a feeling that time will come sooner than I think. Expect another update at the end of this month. Time to shake off this cold, tie my laces and clock up some kilometers.
See y’all on the starting line,
